INVITATION FOR WORK CONTRACT WITH THE INTERBALKAN ENVIRONMENT CENTER
Interbalkan Environment Center (www.i-bec.org) is a public equivalent organization, supporting both local and public management of transboundary water basins, and has the capability to provide numerous services that support sustainable management and protection of natural resources. Monitoring actions at multiple levels using surveying and remote sensing instruments is one of those services. I-BEC features state of the art sampling and field equipment and remote sensing and geographic information systems for the collection and evaluation of remote sensing data.
Interbalkan Environment Center intends to employ a person with a work contract in the context of implementing actions and programs related to GIS applications.
The work will focus on remote and proximal sensing at various programs on environmental monitoring for soil and vegetation parameters: crop yield, crop growth, fertilization application, soil fertility, soil moisture content, irrigation requirements, crop disease, insect infestation. It involves data analysis and information extraction using various handheld (spectroradiometer, hyperspectral camera), airborne (low flight images from a UAV) and satellite sensors (VHR) in the visible, near infrared and thermal wavelengths. The positionincludes preparation and maintenance of the above mentioned instruments, participation in field surveys and in-situ data acquisition campaigns, and writing reports and scientific publications.
We seek candidates with an above-average postgraduate degree in Geoinformatics, Geography, Environmental Remote Sensing, Landscape Ecology or other related fields. A sound background in quantitative remote sensing is mandatory. Ideally the candidates will have a first degree in agronomy, physics, geo-sciences or engineering. A strong interest in resources survey and in-situ sampling would be advantageous. Expertise in satellite image processing, as well as excellent command of the English language, good communication skills, and willingness to integrate into the research environment of the Laboratory are mandatory. Prior experience in macro language programming of GIS software is an asset. A good knowledge of the Greek language is desirable.
